Transforming HR Into a People-First Strategy

Creating a workplace where employees feel valued, supported, and empowered doesn’t happen by accident – it requires a proactive approach. In a recent interview, our Head of People & Culture Fallon Carpenter shared how she transformed Sentinel Group's HR department from a reactive function into a proactive, people-focused team.

Since becoming VP of HR in 2017, Fallon expanded wellness programs, increased paid parental leave, and introduced grandparent leave, helping employees feel valued and supported. She also worked on building a culture where employees felt comfortable using flexible benefits, which led to increased engagement and retention.

Beyond benefits, Fallon implemented a structured management training program and developed a performance system focused on nurturing internal talent. She and her team work closely with managers to provide guidance, improve leadership skills, and foster an open, supportive work environment. 

"We have these things that make people feel like we're recognizing them, trusting them and supporting them in their life outside of work."
