Since the public health emergency reached its end, employer-sponsored health plans have become a lot more popular for one specific reason: Medicaid. Many individuals who joined Medicaid over the past few years are losing their eligibility, which means employers can expect an influx of participants joining their plans outside of open enrollment.
In his recent article, Chris O'Shea gives insight into what employers can expect from the redetermination process to help ensure they aren't caught off guard by the changes. He explains that all industries will be impacted, especially those in the lower-wage sector with a larger portion of the workforce currently enrolled in Medicaid. Plan sponsors must be aware of how the increase in participants will impact their overall spending on premiums and enrollment count, Chris notes.
